Jan-Phillipp Sendker est né en 1960 à Hambourg. Journaliste et écrivain, il a été correspondant du magazine Stern aux États-Unis de 1990 à 1995, puis en Asie, de 1995 à 1999. Il vit aujourd'hui à Potsdam avec sa famille.
